Week 2 of Term 3 our Year 11 cohort attended their much-anticipated camp, held at Tangalooma Resort on Morton Island. The first group departed Monday morning for two nights and the second group attended, Wednesday to Friday. The week saw the students engage in a number of extremely fun and rewarding activities and experiences.
The inclement weather on day one, did not deter our first group of adventurers as they faced all activities with a smile and resilience. Thankfully, the weather cleared and over the course of the week both groups of students participated in the Island Eco Tour, a hike through the mountain whereby they were met with amazing views of the ocean and resort, sand tobogganing and a four-wheel drive bus journey through the bush. Students were given insights into the Indigenous ways of life, learning about edible plants and the history of the island. The local dolphins were a hit with students feeding them at dusk.
It was great to see students given the opportunity to relax with their friends, get to know their peers and teachers and engage in activities that they have never done before. The atmosphere was one of excitement and joy, as students made use of the variety of facilities available to them in their free time. Students engaged in karaoke, swimming in the pool, dancing, volleyball and relaxing by the ocean.
The Year 11 camp is a true highlight of the student's journey at QAHS and these memories and the friendships formed will not be forgotten. Well done Year 11, for making the most of this amazing opportunity and for exemplifying the IB Learner Profiles of balanced and risk takers.
