Year 10 students, Mathilda Bester and Samuel Brown will join Year 11 students, Charli Horchner and Riley Knowles, and represent Queensland Academies Health Sciences Campus at the City of Gold Coast Junior Council in 2021. Congratulations to Charli Horchner and Riley Knowles for being elected into the 2021 Junior Council Executive Committee. Wishing them the best for Thursday 25 February, when they find out if they have been successful in their bid for Junior Mayor or Junior Deputy-Mayor positions.

2021 will mark the 29th year of the Gold Coast Junior Council which is a student leadership program for Year 10 and 11 students from local Gold Coast high schools. Through exploration of civic leadership, this two-year program provides students with the opportunity to actively participate in their local community. Students develop an understanding of our local government, discuss and raise awareness of current community issues, and enhance skills required for effective advocacy, such as public speaking and team work, through workshops and volunteer opportunities.

We thank our Year 12 students, Keeley Bulled and Naughton Lovell for serving in the Junior Council and its Executive Committee in 2020. Well done! Good luck with your future leadership endeavours.

Mr Anir Lal
Student Leadership Coordinator
