The 2021 International Women's Day Youth Leadership Award Program acknowledges young women who are role models within schools & community. Along with this it is important to acknowledge young women who inspire others with their resilience, integrity and humanity to make the world a better place. 2020 was a challenging year for many and in 2021 IWD Youth Leadership recognizes the incredible young women rising above adversity and leading the way through these challenging times to be more inclusive, compassionate and kind, seeing all abilities, and taking away the barriers for young women of today to be the most empathic, thoughtful and insightful leaders of tomorrow.

Nine students from QAHS have been previously recognised for their incredible leadership across the school and community service, in the performing arts and sport as well as through innovation and technology. This week the IWD Youth Leadership awards committee visited QAHS to award our students during a whole Academy assembly.

Graziella Thake, one of only three women CEO's in sport globally and current International Women's Day award winner for Australia and the Asia Pacific spoke to the school community about the power of inclusion and always saying 'yes'. She empowered our young women to strive for what they want to achieve and encouraged everyone to take opportunities as they arise. Her message was simple – 'put your best self forward in the World'. QAHS is honoured to have welcomed such a renowned public speaker who has spoken at the United Nations and at multiple international sporting events alongside some of the biggest names in global sport such as Usain Bolt.

Along with Cathy Skiperdene, president of the IWD Youth Leadership Awards committee, and Principal Vanessa Rebgetz, nine young women were recognised for their leadership;
