QAHS welcomed its Brilliant Futures 2022 cohort of Year 7s on Thursday 10 March. Fifty three new students were inducted, many of whom met each other for the first time. Students spent time investigating Chemistry concepts and developing lab-skills in our science laboratories, and the afternoon culminated in a presentation from our principal Vanessa Rebgetz, including individual presentations of their Brilliant Futures badge, lanyard, and welcome pack.
The lab-skills session was planned and delivered by Chemistry teachers Anna Linecker and Tony Nicholson, with assistance from volunteer STEM mentors: Anna Tian, Anton Bagino, Devam Raval, Emily-Jayne Browne, Giselle Courtney, Layla Kishi, Lena Ellil, Oni Manjur, Sophie Caruana, and Thien Tran. A special thank you to those teachers and students for guiding our new Brilliant Futures students through the lab work experience.
Special thanks also to Jo Parks for the multitude of administrative tasks that go into ensuring the event runs smoothly every time, to Sam Worboys for ensuring the event was photographed, and Sarah Stevens as well as STEM Mentors: Hannah Nguyen, Julie Yoon and Madeline Howell for providing a friendly welcoming face to families and students as they arrived to begin their first ever Brilliant Futures workshop.
