I have the privilege of informing the school community of the success of our QAHS Debaters in the 2023 Gold Coast Debating Competition, to date. We congratulate all of the 116 Debating students for their commitment to representing QAHS throughout the Preliminary Rounds of the Gold Coast Debating Competition, and draw particular attention to team members from the 11 Intermediate B and 2 Open B teams, all of whom were new to debating this year. I look forward to their continued participation in Debating, next year.
Although 14 QAHS Debating teams narrowly missed out on qualifying for the knock-out Debating Finals, 11 QAHS Debating teams qualified for the Finals series which commenced in Term 3 – yet another outstanding achievement by QAHS Debaters in 2023, collectively.
The standard of debates in the Finals series is always high, and 2023 has been no exception. Nevertheless, 3 QAHS Debating teams reached the Semi-Final in their debating division, and I am delighted to announce that all 3 teams won their Semi-Final debate to qualify for the Gold Coast Debating Grand Final, which will take place at Bond University on Sunday 20 August.
If you are interested in supporting our QAHS Debating Grand Finalists, keep an eye on the Gold Coast Debating website as well as their Instagram account @goldcoastdebating, as updated information regarding the specific time of particular Grand Final debates will be released via those online sources as soon as the schedule for Saturday 20 August is confirmed.
