The count-down is now on until our first QA Sport Day for 2023! With just under a week to go, this is a timely reminder for all students to review the activity that they will be participating in on Thursday 30 March. This is for Year 10 and 11 students. All students are expected to arrive at school in Full Sports Uniform (no variations).

The following list outlines what to bring for each activity:

Team 2 – Ice skating. It is highly recommended that students bring along some warm clothes (jumper, tracksuit pants/leggings) to change into at the venue. Ice skates will be provided.

Team 3 – Griffith Sports. Please bring appropriate footwear, a hat, water bottle and packed lunch. No canteen facilities will be available at the venue. Shaded areas, sunscreen and water will be readily available.

Team 4 – Nature Walks. Please bring appropriate enclosed footwear, a hat, water bottle and packed lunch. No canteen facilities will be available at the venue. Water bottles can be filled along the path. Sunscreen available, though please apply prior to walking.

Team 5 – Table Tennis. No leather school shoes are permitted in the venue. Trainers/sports shoes only. A canteen is available, though a healthy packed lunch is recommended.

Team 6 – Wellness. This activity is held on campus. Students must bring a towel and water bottle on the day. QAHS towels can be purchased through the QKR app. Students are welcome to bring their own yoga mat, though they will also be provided on the day. Please pack a healthy lunch.

Year 12 student competes at State, National and International level in multiple sports

Natasha Lynch has had an incredibly busy schedule for the start of 2023 – balancing her studies and sporting pursuits. Natasha is a role model and leader for aspiring female athletes in the sports of athletics and power lifting. She recently returned from the Queensland Athletics Championships as the State Champion in the U18 Women's Hammer Throw. Furthermore, Natasha competed in the Open Women's event – finishing 3rd and the Discus event, finishing 4th. Natasha has now shifted her training focus to the National Championships in the coming weeks.

Sport 3.PNGTo add to the accolades, Natasha is also a leader in the sport of power lifting! Natasha is part of the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) squad for power lifting and represented Australia in a recent competition in New Zealand. Natasha lifted a 60kg snatch and 79kg clean and jerk – setting a new combined PB of 6kg. She finished 2nd in the competition, though lifted the same amount as first place!

We congratulate Natasha on her outstanding performances in multiple sports. We look forward to seeing her compete at the national and international level in the future. Well done, Natasha!

Year 11 student competes at the State Athletics Track and Field event

Taylah Morris has just returned from the State Athletics Track and Field event. Taylah's main discipline is Race Walking, in which she placed 5th in Queensland for her age category. Taylah battled with injury during the race meet, though a previous PB of 30.50 has allowed her to qualify for Nationals. We wish Taylah all the best in the lead up to Nationals.

QAHS student selected in the South Coast Indoor Volleyball Team

Year 12 student, Joaquin Segui has been selected in the South Coast 16 – 19yrs Boys Volleyball team. Joaquin is an exceptional leader here at QAHS and has worked tirelessly to develop the QAHS volleyball program for our students. This has included coaching, selector's duties, uniform design and mentorship of our younger players. We congratulate Joaquin on his selection in the South Coast team to compete at the State Championships in April.

Finally, we would like to give a shout out to Year 10 student, Abdullah Al Itmam who has demonstrated great commitment and dedication to the QAHS basketball squad. Abdullah has recently been elevated into the QAHS team to compete in the Gold Coast High School Basketball competition. Congratulations Adbullah – your positive attitude and work ethic is a huge asset to the team!
