Our newest QAHS Surf Lifesavers are well underway with training as part of our CAS program. Students have the opportunity to complete either a water or land-based qualification. Water-based students have now completed their pool swim requirements and have been learning rescue techniques at the HOTA lake or beach on Friday afternoons in readiness for their assessment. Land-based students have been practicing vital CPR and First Aid skills on campus during the lunchbreak on Wednesdays.

Our qualified QAHS Lifesavers continue to patrol our Gold Coast beaches over the summer and Autumn period. Most students have voluntarily committed to a rostered patrol, which occurs every 3-4 weeks (AM or PM shift) at Mermaid Beach SLSC. Some of the group also patrol at other surf lifesaving clubs on the Gold Coast. The QA Lifesaver program is now well into the third season of active participation, with over 60 students receiving at least one qualification. In our last season alone, the group registered over 1300 hours of voluntary patrol – what a team effort!

Lastly, it is so inspiring to see that we now have students from Year 10, 11, 12 and ALUMNI students (from the Class of 2023) continuing to patrol together. This is outstanding commitment to the community and we congratulate our group for going 'above and beyond' their CAS requirements to serve the community.
